How to Build Your First OT Clinic – Lessons Learned & Mistakes to Avoid (Feat. Lauren Meffen)

Published:

On this episode of Strata Stories, we talk with Lauren Meffen Owner of Wildflower Therapy and Head Neck Rehab.

We dive into:
1. Lessons learned from building Lauren’s first clinic
2. Balancing personal life and work life
3. The benefits of being transparent with your staff
4. Why you should be careful not to grow TOO fast
5. And how to create a cancellation policy

Episode Highlight: “For some reason in my brain, every payer, the first two years of practice always paid the same. I didn’t understand the word allowable. I didn’t understand that a CPT code of a 92507 by UnitedHealthcare was allowable at $50 and should only be seen for 30 minutes. And I didn’t understand that a CPT code, the same exact one, billed by Medicare and a secondary Blue Cross Federal was going to pay me $83 with no patient responsibility.

I also didn’t understand that Humana was going to pay $62 with no patient responsibility or a $10 copay. If I were to go back, I would still be an insurance clinic, but I would take on one insurance at a time” – Lauren
